La soledad del nadador. La fotografía de LAURA AUSTIN me recuerda, mejor, la asocié con el relato de John Cheever, sobre otro argumento pero con la sugerencia de similares sentido y significado. También la película con Burt Lancaster sobre el relato de Cheever. Siempre me impresionó la soledad de los competidores de alto rendimiento en las Olimpíadas, aquellos que no juegan en equipos sino que dan todo en solitario. (Obviamente, no digo que la imagen registre a un deportista de Olimpíadas). Digo que parece un fuera de serie que, de tan excepcional, está solo en la cumbre, o en el fondo, abajo, como en esta fotografía que tiene su punto de vista y mirada desde arriba. También, un bañista común que en una piscina ha quedado en soledad. En ese contraste entre el agua y la soledad del individuo y su cuerpo, está la tensión dramática de esta imagen. Un hombre, una mujer, un individuo muy actual: solo, solitario, aunque estuviera rodeado de multitudes que no vemos, que el protagonista tampoco ve.

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1)
The loneliness of the swimmer. The photograph of LAURA AUSTIN reminds me better, I associated it with the story of John Cheever, on another argument but with the suggestion of similar meaning and meaning. Also the film with Burt Lancaster on the story of Cheever. I was always struck by the loneliness of high-performance competitors in the Olympics, those who do not play in teams but give everything alone. (Obviously, I do not say that the image registers an Olympian athlete). I say that it seems an out-of-series that, so exceptional, is alone on the summit, or bottom, down, as in this photograph that has its point of view and look from above. Also, an ordinary bather in a pool has been left alone. In that contrast between the water and the solitude of the individual and his body, there is the dramatic tension of this image. A man, a woman, a very current individual: alone, lonely, even if surrounded by crowds that we do not see, which the protagonist does not see either.
